Patients traveling from out of state should generally arrive one to two days before surgery and plan to remain in the Columbia area for at least 7–10 days afterward. Your recommended stay may vary depending on your procedure and recovery.

For your first night after surgery, we encourage you to stay in the welcoming guest suite at our office. This comfortable onsite accommodation allows you to rest without traveling to a hotel immediately after your procedure, and a specially trained nurse will remain onsite with you. Please contact us for more information.

Patients typically spend their subsequent nights in Columbia at one of our recommended hotels nearby. A responsible adult must accompany you for at least the first 72 hours to assist with your care and transportation.

Is there anything special I should pack and bring with me?

You are welcome to bring anything you'd like to feel comfortable during the trip. Please be sure to bring comfortable clothes and any toiletries that you prefer.

Will I need any follow up appointments after returning home?

Your initial follow-up appointments will take place while you are still in Columbia. You will typically be seen at our office the next day after surgery and return again on the second or third day. In many cases, your external hemostatic sutures will be removed during this visit.

Patients traveling from out of state should plan to remain in the Columbia area for at least 7–10 days after surgery. Depending on your procedure and recovery, you may have one to three in-person follow up visits before being medically cleared to travel home.

After you return home, follow-up appointments are typically scheduled 7–10 days after suture removal, followed by visits approximately three weeks, six weeks, three months and six months after surgery. We encourage in-person appointments whenever practical, although some follow-ups may be completed by secure video conference when appropriate.
