For patients with concerns of the lower abdominal area only, a Mini Tummy Tuck is a procedure to address the “pooching” or bulging that may be present for various reasons, including postpartum, weight loss, or genetics.
A Mini Tummy Tuck helps tighten and flatten the lower abdomen up to the level of the umbilicus (belly button). This area is typically stretched in patients that carried “low” during pregnancy often times only notice issues in this area instead of the more common issues that occur both above and below the level of the belly button. The procedure is also helpful for people who naturally may have some skin laxity in this area.
A Mini Tummy Tuck works similarly to a full tummy tuck by plicating (suturing/tightening) the fascia and removing some of the excess skin below the level of the belly button. However, unlike a full tummy tuck, any “pooching” or bulging above the belly button will not be improved.
The benefit of a Mini Tummy Tuck is that the overall abdominal scar is shorter than a full tummy tuck and there is no scar around the belly button.
Who is a good candidate for a Mini Tummy Tuck?
- If your main issue is the pouching below and not including the belly button region
- You are happy with your belly button and upper abdominal area
- You have only a small amount of excess skin of your lower abdomen
A Mini Tummy Tuck can be a very powerful surgery to help achieve a more contoured and flatter abdominal region.
