Mastopexy (Breast Lift) – An Overview

Age, pregnancy, and breast feeding are all contributing factors to the look and feel of your breasts. In many cases, these events lead to drooping of the breast (called ptosis). In association with the significant hormonal changes that occur with each of those events, the breasts often times get stretched out, thinned out and start to droop. The nipple and areola (pink portion) may start to point downward towards the ground. The end result is a less youthful appearing breast.

A Mastopexy (Breast Lift) is a powerful surgery that can help restore much of what age, pregnancy and breast feeding have taken. The key component of a breast lift is moving the nipple and areola back to a higher and more youthful position. This allows the nipple and areola to point straight ahead and not downward. Once it is in good position, the breast tissue is then reshaped around this new position creating a less saggy and older appearing breast.

Many women state that they feel much more confident in bras, bathing suits and clothes once they get a breast lift. In addition, many women feel improvement in symptoms of heaviness and discomfort around their neck, upper back and shoulders after surgery. Restoration of nipple/areola and breast position is extremely important in creating a more youthful appearing breast.

Another significant benefit of a breast lift is the ability to improve asymmetries and volume differences between breasts. During surgery, adjustments are made to the amount of breast tissue that is removed (or kept) to maintain proportion with your body and goals as well as accounting for volume differences between breasts.
